127 Hours
I would like to analyze the movie 127 hours. It is a true story of man versus nature. It is often said that experience is the greatest teacher and that is the main evident in the Academy-Award nominated film 127 hours.
This movie is directed by Danny Boyle with screenplay by Danny Boyle and Simon Beaufoy on an autobiography by Aron Ralston (2004). Danny Boyle directed also Slumdog Millionaire, which was also his Oscar winner movie. This movie tells us the true story of Aron Ralston (James Franco), a mountain climber who was trapped by a boulder while exploring Blue John Canyon in April 2003. I always loved film which has a true story, which makes the genre more interesting than other films. I think each generation would like to watch this movie.
The theme of man versus nature is epitomized as Aron’s survival instincts kick in and he begins to try to move the rock. There is no force on earth more powerful than the will to live is the main message of the movie. This makes it differs from others in a few ways.
This movie tells us the story of a courageous adventurer and his experience of survival when facing nature that makes it different from other movie. This creates meaning in our lives through connectedness with people, places, and things. It also endeavor to procure material items and hobbies as did the man in the movie. It shows memories, hallucinations, and flashbacks all centered around the people that indicates the importance of connectedness with others.
The film shows we can change the interpretations of the meanings we place on our life experiences. Aron’s story was that he was a self-described man who did not feel he needed anyone's help. It was never revealed how and when Aron developed this attitude, but it somehow became his story along the way. In the canyon, this is challenged as he reflects on how solitude and never wanting help has brought him to his current predicament. He then changes the negative meaning he has placed on needing others, which is evident at the end of the movie when he unabashedly screams for help and begins leaving notes before going on new adventure.
This film also highlights the importance of social support systems. As the man in the movie loves outdoors and all the time spent alone on his adventures, all of his important memories involved other peoples. For this reason, I find this movie hilarious.
I would say that this is a beautifully directed and well-acted movie. The director of the movie captured both the beauty and danger of the canyons wonderfully and did justice in telling the story. While watching a film about a man spending 127 hours trapped in a canyon and finding liberation by self-amputation, one can only experience awe and admiration for someone who fought against such insurmountable odds and won.
This is created something very special that level of approval is not what most opening ceremonies get. The energy on the screen is the energy of the life. The movie was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards, nine British Academy Film Awards, etc. It was also nominated for eight Broadcast Film Critics Association.
It is an exciting, touching film, which brings off with enormous skill. It is a skill for which lesser directors would give their. There is a surprising amount of movement and energy in such limited environment. It uplifts a story of triumph and revelation and ambitious in terms of delivering genre thrills. It also builds a human character over the course of its running time and lets that character breathe a bit outside of the 'here and now' trapped situation.
The music is really outstanding composed by very innovative Indian film composer A.R.Rahman who won the Academy Awards for his wok on Slumdog Millionaire. He has created an awesome score to convey the ordeal of American mountaineer.
This is amazing that, even while knowing Aron's ultimate fate, the time he spent fighting with the boulder was still gripping. There are some really terrific cinematic moments in 127 Hours. The song "Lovely Day" is really very nice. It is surprising for the viewers that the the set in Canyon, Utah is real.
It is a visceral thrilling story that will take an audience on a never before experienced journey and prove what we can do when we choose life. This movie makes the Canyon more popular. It disservice to hikers and climbers by glorifying the event.
This movie makes the genre very interesting. 127 Hours is not just a film, but is an experience. I find that it is an amazing movie centered around an absolutely incredible, legendary performance. I went to see this movie with high hopes and left with a huge smile on my face. It is authentically emotional and merely punctuated movie. It is more than just stands out. The movie is quite simply, unforgettable.
