My Journey from India to USA
The day had come. My eyes opened very early that morning. I looked out of window and saw very beautiful weather outside. It was cold wind. The flowers in my garden were smiling at me. All of sudden my eyes got watery. I realized that this was my last day in India because I was going to USA on that day. Tears were running down my face. My mind said its time to go but my heart said No!!
I went downstairs and everybody in the house was sleeping. They had been packing until the last night and I do not want to them wake up. I just started thinking about how I was going to leave my house, my friends, my relatives, and my country. The place where I grew up, the people with whom I had grown up, how I was going to live without them? It was going to be very hard for me to leave something that I had used to.
I took out my album and started looking at pictures with my mom, dad, brother, other relatives and friends. It was both type of feeling, happy and sad; happy, because I was going to meet my husband and sad, because I was leaving my parents, relatives, and friends. My all relatives and friends came to meet me. Mom made very delicious food for me that I never forget. Mom and dad both gave me very nice gift. My brother hugs me with tears in his eyes. He wished me good luck. He said “I wish you get everything in your life”. All of my bags were packed and I was ready to go. I went to the temple last time to pray god. There was no international airport in my city so first I had to go to the International airport and then had to catch the flight. I wore blue skinny Jeans and red T shirt.
According to Indian culture, women suppose to wear clothes that cover the entire body. Traditional Indian clothing for women in north and west are “saris”. People might be wondering what is that word means and how does it look like? Saris made out of silk are considered the most elegant. Women wear a sari, the long sheet of colorful cloth, draped over a simple or fancy blouse. All of my relatives were wearing those kinds of saris. Mostly all women wear sari, but now days, the generation has changed therefore not every woman would wear it.
We were on our way to the airport. I was in flashback of my life until someone told me that we are near the airport and now its time to go. All of my family members were crying and hugging me. It was very hard for me to leave all this. My eyes got watery again. I could not stop crying at that moment. Last time, my mom and dad hug me and blessed me with tears in their eyes. Finally, it was time to go and check in. After getting my boarding pass, I came last time to say bye to my all family members. It was very sad and touching moment of my life. Finally, I was in flight.
I was in flight and feeling so confident about myself. The plane was about to fly and the waitress came and offered me some juice and sandwich. I was finally in the plane and I still could not believe. I look down to the window and all I could see is the blue sky and white clouds. After 13 hours, the plane was about to land and I heard the announcement that everyone should put seat belts on. I had mine on already. The plane was now ready for landing. The plane was on the floor for sometimes and I got out of it. Right after I got out from the plane, we had to go into the bus that was going to took me to the plane where my next flight would be. I saw completely different people around me. I noticed people were talking in English. I saw different clothing, hearing different language, and even different type of weather.
Oh my God! Where am I?
I was at Chicago airport. The airport was really huge and I had no idea where to go at that time. I was telling myself that I finally made it to America and was so happy. I had to wait for a few hours for a flight to Columbus . I did not do a lot of things there. I just read a book to spend my time. I also called my husband and told him that I was in America and only few hours left between us. He was so excited to see me and of course me too. I had to go through all procedures again to catch the next flight of Columbus . I was waiting in a line and at that time, I see that the city covered in a sea of white snow. The tiny snow crystals drift peacefully down from the sky. It was very exciting experience for me. I had never seen the snow like that before.
Finally, seven hours had passed. Now there was time to go to the flight. This one was only like an hour and half long domestic flight. I felt like I just got into the flight and already time to get out? The domestic flight through Columbus was pretty quick. I suddenly saw my husband who was there to pick me up from the airport. I got excited about that new world. It was really nice time from India to America . I cannot forget that time until my whole life.
